2009 CRUISE
There'n Back Picture
There'n Back has survived another cold winter and is raring to go and the new season is upon us. It’s time to start the prep work. This year we have a couple of small projects.

We have purchased two Swift kayaks. We are going to mount brackets up over the aft deck canopy. There will be a roller track that will allow the kayaks to roll off the end down into the water with the help of a block attached to the boom. They only weight 40 pounds each so it should not be a problem getting them up and down.

I also need to stabilize the bike holders. They go on the back deck into a device that holds the forks in place. We cover them with Sunbrella and during a particularly heavy wind last year the Sunbrella acted like a sail and stressed the one bikes mount. I need to have a better system to install the device onto the deck so it won’t pull out.

We have a few minor electrical jobs and the last project was started last fall and will be finished off this spring. We replaced out counter top with a solid composite material. The laminate on the old counter had started to lift where there was a seam in it. This is a really nice material and should dress the cabinet up a lot.

As to the season we are not heading out to any lengthy cruise. We will keep the boat somewhere on the Rideau Canal and just do short trips in the system or possibly some time down in the 1,000 Islands National Park.

My friend Jukka is driving to Ontario from Vancouver and will spend a week with me aboard in early June. And I must not have offended my big brother Robert (or Bob for you Maritimers) as he is coming back sometime in mid-June for two weeks. My son Donald and his wife Cori are planning on coming and spending a week aboard with me. It will be great to have Don aboard to do the cooking as he is quite the chef. He was such a great help when he came lasy year getting the boat ready for launch that he deserves a cruise on board.

I am hoping to spend some time on my own in late July in the Big and Little Rideau Lakes and Viv and I will get to have at least two weeks and as many weekends as possible aboard.

So it should be a good season. Just taking it easy and possibly getting ready for the Big Loop. We plan to retire in the spring of 2011. We may spend the 2010 season getting the boat over to Lake Michigan so that in the spring of 2011 we can start down to New Orleans over to Florida and up the Inland Coastal Waterway on the east coast to New York then back up into Lake Ontario and back home by the end of 2012. Talk about a test of a relationship. One full year on There'n Back for Viv and I. I am such an easy guy to get along with so it won't be any trouble for Viv. Big plans so we shall see.

Rideau Canal

Above is a map of the Rideau Canal. I am not sure where we will be docking for the summer but it will be somewhere on this system.

As we progress we will update this to see if we are dreaming or are on track.
